Aside from its historical worth, this was one of the reasons why they have chosen this place to be one of their film locations in VA.
Shockoe Slip derived its name from an Indian word “Shacquohocan” which means flat stones at the mouth of the creek. While the word “slip” refers to a place where boats load & unload their cargo, meaning this place is near the canal basin. This place has been the major route for all goods being transported and was the commercial center of Richmond.
